Mudi

Mudi

The mudi was identified by Dr. Dezso Fenyesi in Hungary during the 1930s, but the dog belonged to a collective group of herding dogs that existed for centuries before that. Its relatives include the pumi and the puli, and the breed developed naturally. The multipurpose dog was used for herding, guarding, rescue, hunting and vermin control. The dog has remained a rare breed, overshadowed by other herding dogs of the region, including the komondor and the puli.

The Mudi is a rare medium-sized herding breed from Hungary. It has spitz-like qualities: Its head is wedge-shaped, it has large, erect ears and a long pointy muzzle. Its coat is either wavy or curly. They need to be brushed regularly to prevent matting or tangling hair.

The Mudi is a very smart, brave, courageous and very protective dog breed. They are very loving and gentle. Mudis need plenty of exercise and are not suited for indoor living. They are at their best when they get to run and roam outdoors.
