Eurasiers are medium-sized dogs that originated in Germany where they were mainly kept as family pets, companions and guard dogs. This is a Spitz-type breed that is known by several different names including the Eurasier, Eurasian Dog, Eurasian and the Eurasian Spitz. Eurasiers were created in Germany during the early 1960s by a man named Julius Wipfel. Wipfel’s goal was to create a dog that would make a great companion and guard dog. To accomplish this, he crossed various Chow Chows with Wolfspitz dogs (Keeshonden). The puppies that resulted from these crosses were originally called Wolf Chows. During the early 1970s, Wipfel began crossing his Wolf Chows with carefully selected Samoyeds. Wipfel called these dogs Eurasiers due to their European and Asian heritage. The Eurasier dogs were recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale in 1973 and by the Canadian Kennel Club in 1995.

Eurasiers have thick double coats, with a dense undercoat and a thick outer coat. Full grown Eurasiers can weigh anywhere from 40 to 71 pounds. Appearance
This is a breed that sheds quite heavily during shedding season. As such, you will want to be sure and brush your Eurasier at least once a day and more often when it is shedding. Only bathe your pet when necessary; however, be sure to check its ears for wax buildup two or three times a month. If you notice an excessive amount of debris in the ear, use the tip of a damp cloth to wipe it out. When clipping your Eurasier’s nails, make sure that you use a pliers-style nail clipper made specially for pets. Additionally, take extra care not to cut into the tiny veins that can be found within each nail.
