Squinting

The pet is looking or glancing sideways, this health condition of Squinting in pets is medically known as blepharospasm. Squinting occurs when there is some type of irritation to the eye or both eyes. This can occur in both cats and dogs, and there are a variety of causes including dust/debris, airborne allergies, eyelash abnormalities and light sensitivity. Other things that can cause squinting in dogs and cats include autoimmune diseases, hypothyroidism, demodectic mange and infections of the eye or eyelids.

Causes of Squinting

Squinting may be caused by irritations such as allergies, eyelash abnormalities, dust in the eye, or light sensitivity. Squinting may also be the sign of autoimmune disease, hypothyroidism, demodectic mange, and eye infections.

Treatment for Squinting

Treatment varies, and not all causes may have or require treatment. Your doctor may prescribe medication or recommend surgery.
