The dog or cat has scaly spots on the skin and/or clawing. Scaly spots of skin, medically known as exfoliative dermatitis, occurs when there is an abnormal accumulation of skin cells, and they cannot stick together. This can develop in both cats and dogs and is most often associated with health issues such as Vitamin A deficiencies, Zinc deficiencies, allergies and flea infestation. However, other things that can cause scaly spots of skin include hormonal disorders, skin infections and diabetes.
