Change In Voice

A difference in the tone of voice of the dog or cat, while barking or meowing. If your pet has been in an environment where it barked or meowed excessively (such as a kennel), it is common that the tone of voice may change for a few days. If, however, the tone of voice does not go back to normal after a week, it is advised to consult a veterinarian.

How to Recognize

If your dog’s bark or cat’s meow sounds different than usual, your pet has a voice change. Your pet will usually sound more hoarse than usual. Coughing, decreased appetite, and fever are common symptoms that accompany voice change.

Causes of Change In Voice

Voice changes are usually caused by a sore throat. Underlying conditions include tonsillitis, strep throat, sinus infections, kennel cough, distemper, a throat tumor, and upper respiratory tract infections.

Treatment for Change In Voice

Your pet’s treatment will typically be antibiotics, although it depends on the underlying condition.

Pet Insurance

When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs.
