The Karakachan, or Bulgarian Shepherd Dog, is an old breed that descends from domestic dogs in the Balkans and possible origins in Afghanistan and Iran. Karakachans are large, loyal, and brave dogs that were meant for livestock guarding and will attack to defend their flock. Their coat is medium to long and length that may vary in color, but is generally white with black, asymmetrical spots.

Behaviour and Personality
Keeping a Karakachan as a pet requires socialization from puppyhood as they may be aggressive, although they show devotion and fidelity to their master. Independent and intelligent dogs, they can be trained easily under a firm and consistent hand. Their exercise needs are very high and they are best adapted to clean country environments where they have lots of space and walking or jogging opportunities.
