The breed also goes by the name St. Germain Pointing Dog. It is a hunting dog with its origins in France. Braque is French word which when translated to English means pointing dogs. It is a cross breed of French and English type of pointing dogs created in the 1830s. Initially, the dog was known as Compiegne Pointer but later changed to the present breed name. Finding Braque Saint-Germain puppies is not easy as this is a rare breed of dogs. Around the 1830s, French dog breeders mated the French Pointers with English Pointers. The offspring were then offered to King Charles X. The Braque Saint-Germaingained its popularity in Saint Germain en Laye a commune located about 12 miles west of Paris. Despite being a hunting dog, it was a favorite participant in dog shows in the region. That is where it derived its breed name. It has since been recognized by international dog breeding associations and promoted as a pet.

Appearance

Braque Saint Germain Common Health Conditions
The dog does not have a lot of health issues owing to its active nature. However, later in its life, it develops hip problems. The dog's thin coat provides little insulation against cold weather.
