When two popular breeds come together, the lovable bullador is the result that offers an affectionate companion for families with children. A hybrid breed of dog is created by crossing two specific purebreds. The bullador was created by crossing an English bulldog with a Labrador retriever. The practice of creating hybrids began in the United States during the 1900s. The purpose of hybrid creation is to develop a new breed of dog that carries the favorable traits of the parent breeds while reducing the risks for the health problems that are carried by the parent breeds.

American Bullador Build Information

The medium to large bullador stands as high as 24 inches at the shoulder and the weight ranges between 50 to 80 pounds. The short, stiff coat may be black, golden yellow, chocolate, black and white, brindle or merle. The short ear slaps flip downward, and the long tail is curved and carried low.

Behaviour and Personality

The bullador is a courageous and protective watchdog, and it can be wary toward strangers. Toward the family, bulladors are affectionate and they adore children. They are intelligent, but they can be stubborn. Although playful, the bullador is not a high-energy dog and may need to be encouraged to move off of the couch and into exercise mode.

Appearance

The bullador’s coat does not require much maintenance. Brush the coat once each week to remove loose hair, reduce shedding and restore the coat’s lustrous shine. The ears should be cleaned once each week to remove debris and prevent ear infections. Brushing the teeth every other day will help to preserve oral health and prevent periodontal disease.

American Bullador Common Health Conditions

Bulladors live average lifespans of 10 to 16 years years. Bulladors can inherit the genetic health problems that afflict both of the parent breeds, including hip dysplasia, cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, heart disease and skin allergies. Those that inherit a more pronounced brachycephalic face from the bulldog parent are prone to the risks that afflict the brachycephalic breeds, including airway syndrome and a tendency to overheat.
