Original Alaskan Huskies were known as Native Village Dogs and were much taller and leggier than the dogs seen today. Mushers preferred stockier dogs causing the "Village" dogs to virtually become extinct. Originally, husky dogs arrived in Canada and Alaska with the Eskimos and Paleo Indians thousands of years ago. These dogs were often bred to imported Siberian dogs to produce a more preferred sled dog. However, more recently, some of them have even been bred to European dogs.
