Seychellois

This rare breed of cat is a member of the Oriental group of cat breeds. The first Seychellois was born in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Patricia Turner hopes to recreate the cat in the Seychelles that she had learned about. Turner bread Siamese and Orientals to bicolor Persians. The result was white cats with pointed coloring. So far, the Federation Internationale Feline (FIFe) is the only major registry to recognize the breed.

Like Siamese, Seychellois are long and sleek with fine boning. They are so similar in build to Siamese that they are often confused with the breed. Long legs and a pointed head make the breed recognizable as an Oriental. Athletic musculature allows the Seychellois to climb and jump with abandon.

Personality

The Seychellois cats are very similar in personality to the Siamese. The cat is one of high intelligence. Seychellois cats are active, curious and people-oriented. They are as vocal as the standard Siamese, but the voice of the Seychellois is softer than that of Siamese cats. Because of its playful nature and love of humans, this breed is recommended for families.

Appearance

A daily combing can help cut down on any loose hairs covering clothing and furniture. Combing also acts as a fantastic bonding experience between cat and human. If you start trimming your cat's claws when it is a kitten, you'll have an easier time maintaining the claws when your cat is an adult. Trim your cat's claws once every month or so to keep them from getting too long.
