This rare breed of cat is a member of the Oriental group of cat breeds. The first Seychellois was born in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Patricia Turner hopes to recreate the cat in the Seychelles that she had learned about. Turner bread Siamese and Orientals to bicolor Persians. The result was white cats with pointed coloring. So far, the Federation Internationale Feline (FIFe) is the only major registry to recognize the breed.

Appearance
Thanks to the short, sleek coat of the Seychellois, the breed requires minimal grooming. Like any cat breed, this one does shed frequently. A daily combing can help cut down on any loose hairs covering clothing and furniture. Combing also acts as a fantastic bonding experience between cat and human. If you start trimming your cat's claws when it is a kitten, you'll have an easier time maintaining the claws when your cat is an adult. Trim your cat's claws once every month or so to keep them from getting too long.
