They derive their name from that of his estate, Sealy Ham located in Haverfordwest, Wales. Edwards developed these terriers by crossbreeding the Dandie Dinmont, Bull, Wirehaired and West Highland White Terriers. The purpose was to have a dog that would hunt otters, foxes and badgers. Sealyham terriers are also nicknamed Sealies.

Appearance
