Anglo French Hounds

Anglo French Hounds

Anglo-French Hounds evolved over several centuries until about 1957 when they became the dogs that we know today. It was also in this year that each breed was given its own distinction and name. All of these dogs were developed to hunt in large packs, and they were used to hunt small or large game depending on the specific breed. Typically, hounds of this type were followed by hunters on horseback, and they either tracked the game and killed it or chased it back towards the hunters. Today, they are registered with such canine registries as the Societe Centrale Canine, the United Kennel Club and various breed-specific organizations.

Anglo-French Hounds, more formally known as Anglo-Francais Hounds, are actually a group of French hunting dogs that were created by mixing French Scent hounds and English Foxhounds. These dogs were developed to hunt in packs and do not make good household pets. There are seven different types of Anglo-French Hounds, and they are as follows: French Tricolor Hound, Grand Anglo-French Tricolor Hound, French White and Orange Hound, Grand Anglo-French White and Orange Hound, French Black and White Hound, Grand Anglo-French Black and White Hound, and Anglo-French Small Venerie Hound. Anglo-French Hounds are medium-sized dogs that weigh anywhere from 40 to 80 pounds as adults. The Small Venerie is the smallest of these dogs, with adults growing to about 40 to 50 pounds. Most varieties of Anglo-French Hounds have tri-colored coats; however, some varieties have orange and white, lemon and white, or black and white hair. These are short-haired, muscular dogs that have long floppy ears, long tails and lanky legs.
