When breeders were trying to produce a new breed the experiment went wrong and the American Longhair was born. They were trying to produce an American Shorthair with a shiny coat and green eyes of a Persian. Instead, they got a lookalike of the Persian with a leaner body and shorter coat. In general, the American Longhair has the right proportions and balance.
