The pet is eating rapidly and to excess, this overeating behavior is quite common among both cats and dogs today. There are many different reasons why these pets may eat too much. Further, overeating can lead to bloat, which can be a serious and even fatal condition. One reason that many dogs and cats overeat is simply because they enjoy food. However, there are several other reasons for overeating in pets such as boredom, dietary deficiencies and internal parasites.
How to Recognize
Your pet eats more than it usually does, and may eat quicker than usual, too. You may also notice bloat, increased thirst or weight gain in your pet.
Causes of Overeating
Overeating may be due to behavioral problems or boredom, or to medical issues such as malnutrition, parasites, or gastrointestinal issue that causes poor absorption of food.
Diagnosis
Consult a veterinarian to check for a medical cause behind your pet overeating. If your pet is overeating due to a behavioral problem, it can lead to obesity.
Pet Insurance
When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs.
