Flaxseed oil comes from the flax plant. This is essentially replacing fish oil supplements these days as the flaxseed is less smelly. The breath and skin of your dog is much more pleasant smelling when taking the flaxseed oil than the fish oil supplements. Why would we give our dogs these supplements ? They have been found to be beneficial in managing inflammatory and/or immune disorders.
Flaxseed Oil Benefits
Flaxseed oil is most recommended for dogs who have been diagnosed with arthritis. Not only has it been proven to help with mobility of your dog; but with kidney function, metabolic activities and the regulation of blood pressure! Wow! In addition to assisting with the large issues, flaxseed oil also provides your dog with a significant amount of nutrients leading to a shiny coat and healthy skin.
Flaxseed Oil for Dogs Reduces the Cancer Risk
Research has shown that dogs who are given flaxseed oil on a regular daily basis have a reduced risk of cancer. This is not yet confirmed as it is still being studied; however, if there is a chance for the reduction of cancer incidence, why not try it? The other benefits, as previously discussed, are there, so the potential reduction of cancer risk is definitely a plus!
Where Do You Get It?
Flaxseed oil is fairly simple to come by. Many stores have flaxseed oil available to the customer. The flaxseed oil is also relatively inexpensive in comparison to other joint supplements.
